So I told some street vendor that I was called Bob and that I was Swedish. Not only did he believe me but he also started talking to me in Swedish. I had to quickly run away to avoid anymore interaction.
This awkward moment happened as I was on my way to Vatican City. Instead I got pretty lost and ended up at the Colosseum instead. As I was hellbent on going to Vatican City I didn’t stop to appreciate the Colosseum and swiftly left to my destination. After a short break by the riverside I made it into the state. I was expecting a lot of security and loads of border controls but there’s no real border around so it’s difficult to understand where Rome actually ends.
Once I was over the border, I wanted to get into the Basilica but it took me ages to work out how to even get in! Turns out I had to leave again and go in through a different entrance. This lead me to the line for security control. After standing in the line for about 10 minutes I felt pretty faint. I’m not sure if it was the effects of the previous night or sunstroke but I was not feeling good at all. Ultimately I had to bail and I headed back to the hostel. As usual, I got lost trying to find my way back and ended up walking for another 2 hours to get back. I did go past a couple more spectacles on my way though; Castel Sant’Angelo and Quattro Fontane.
After having walked for a good 5-6 hours, I got back to the hostel and had to recharge. I had a little nap for about an hour before I went out for pizza.
