Sitting Ducks

What do you call the borders around Finland?

The Finnish Lines

There’s only one word to describe today’s journey(s); lazy.

Since I awoke I have been sitting down virtually all day. It started when I got off the boat in Stockholm as I had originally planned to walk from the Värtahamnen Port in the north of the city to get to the Central Train Station towards the south of the island. However I accidentally took an escalator, signposted exit, that only brought me to the taxi and bus stop and there was not a way back up to the main galley. I spoke to a driver to ask whether there was a way for me to walk out the area and he told me I would have to either get the coach or a taxi so I jumped on the bus into the centre. This did save me a two hour walk in 20°c weather so I’m quite grateful for that. Then when I got to the Train Station I boarded the 12.21 train direct to Copenhagen. This was nearly 6 hours of non movement but I did have a very long and interesting conversation with the American gentleman beside me. It was an odd encounter as he turned at one point and said to me that I had a really nice country, turns out, he actually mistook me for a Swedish local which was rather quite amusing. After this, we got to know each properly; we spoke about his travels, my travels, and the state of the world, both environmentally, and politically.

My new American friend and his wife got off the train at the Airport, they  did invite me to dinner with them at their hotel, but as I already had plans to get to my hostel, I politely declined, and continued all the way to the central station. Unknowingly, I even fell asleep on this short journey and had to be woken by the conductor.

After I arrived at the hostel, one of the guys I met before, let’s call him my ‘Bergen Buddy’, was here so we had a few drinks to celebrate our arrival.
