March To The Sea

4am. Well, 4.17am to be precise, that was the time I woke up this morning.

As it turns out, having a spicy burrito for tea and then a box of grapes does not do wonders for your insides.

After that, however I was able to sleep soundly for another 3 hours until my alarm woke me. I set my alarm so I could get to the tourist office early to find out about their fjord tours. As it is off-peak season though, there was only one trip I could take; Bergen to Mostraumen. This was a 3 and a half hour trip around the fjord with a couple of stops to take in the local scenery and even try a sample drink direct from the waterfall, which was unsurprisingly fresh and rather naturally sweet. On the way back, we made a stop at Heskjedals-fossen which is a twin waterfall.
I have to say that for the first time in a long time, I felt cold, blisteringly cold. Not only was the temperature 1 degree Celsius but there was also sleet and the wind to combat. I think I was feeling the cold slightly more than others on the boat as I was only wearing a thin vest top and a pullover hoodie whereas others were three or four layers deep.

Once we got off the boat, we went back to the hostel to rest for a bit but as soon as we got there other members suggested going for food so naturally we had to join. Parading around Bergen looking for food is not an enjoyable experience so eventually we let fate decide our choice. Assigning a dish to each number on a dice we ended up going for Chinese food which, despite the hefty price tag, was delicious.

While walking back toward the hostel, it was suggested that we should see how far up one of the mountains we could get before the sun set. Turns out all the way. Got some incredible views of Bergen and as a group decided we would complete this again tomorrow but follow the route around to the next scenic spot.
