Old Number 7

On Saturday morning, I left Apeldoorn and ventured to the university city of Utrecht. Getting there in the first place was a hassle as the train I intended to catch was cancelled, and then the next one included a change. Luckily, there were a couple of guys on board that were willing to help out a lost soul.

I got off the train in Utrecht and after a few wrong turns, I found my hostel.
Having checked into my hostel, my intention was to get an early night as I this was just supposed to be a stopover night, and I had little to no interest in this town; my goal was to reach Rotterdam, but as all the hostels were booked, out I stayed here.

That was before I met one of my companions in the room. He was staying there not because he was a traveller but in fact a returning local who refused to stay with family. He showed me some of the sights of the city, including the riverbank, and the Dom Tower, and we unexpectedly had quite a lot to drink later that evening. That was the first time I actually got to socialise properly with my dorm-mates and I found that this whole backpacking thing could be quite enjoyable, expensive, but enjoyable. Stumbling in at 3 am meant I didn’t exactly get that much sleep and was in quite a rush the next morning. Luckily, I was still able to recover and make my way to the train station and find a way to Rotterdam.
